What we actually do

We pour, repair and replace concrete driveways across Lakeland and Polk County. That covers everything from routing and sealing a single crack through to a full engineered replacement with permits, sub-grade remediation and a decorative finish.

The reason this site is so heavy on specification is that concrete work is difficult to compare. Two quotes for the same driveway can differ by thousands, and the difference is almost always in the parts you cannot see once the concrete is down: how deep the excavation went, whether the base was compacted and tested, whether there is a rebar grid on chairs or just fibre in the mix, and when the joints were cut.

So we publish the numbers. If you are comparing us against someone else, take the specification page from whichever service you need and ask them the same questions.

Concrete finishing tools laid out on a finished slab

Trowel, edger, groover, brush and string line. Most of what decides a driveway happens before any of these come out.

How we work

Five things we do consistently, which is most of what separates a good driveway from a bad one.

Assess before quoting

We look at the existing slab and the ground where we can, rather than pricing from a photograph. What is under the driveway is the biggest variable in the quote.

Itemise the groundwork

Base work, reinforcement, concrete and any sub-grade remediation are listed separately, so a low square-foot rate cannot hide a thin base.

Say when not to spend

Repair, resurfacing and slab lifting are often better value than replacement. We would rather tell you that than sell the larger job.

Handle the permits

Applications to the City of Lakeland or Polk County, 811 utility marking before excavation, and attending the inspection that closes the permit.

Build for this climate

UV load, microburst rainfall, thermal contraction and sandy sub-grade are the design conditions here, and every specification on this site reflects that.

Cure properly

Concrete does not dry, it reacts. A seven day wet cure and twenty-eight days to design strength are not optional steps we shorten to finish faster.

An honest note on comparing quotes

Four questions worth asking any contractor, including us.

  • How deep is the base, and will you test the compaction? Four inches of limerock compacted to 95% Modified Proctor is the residential standard. A number without a test is a hope.
  • Is there a rebar grid, and what is it sitting on? Steel dragged up through wet concrete with a hook ends up in the wrong place. Chairs are cheap; correct placement is what the steel is for.
  • When are the control joints cut, and how deep? Within twenty-four hours, at least a quarter of the slab thickness, at eight to ten feet on a four-inch slab.
  • What happens if you find bad ground? The answer should be a defined remediation approach with a price, not silence or an unexplained variation at the end.
